Delegates,
First of all let me welcome you to NCSC! My name is Guillermo Nemirovsky and I will have the honor of being your chair in the Organization of American States Simulation. I am currently a sophomore in the “Walsh School of Foreign Service” at Georgetown University, majoring in International Politics with a focus on Policy and Latin America. I am originally from Caracas, Venezuela and have been living about three years now in the United States.
I think that the experiences possible in this new edition of NCSC and specifically in this newly designed committee will be extremely interesting for both delegates and staff. We will be implementing pseudo-crisis simulations in a large committee for the first time which will ultimately test the breadth of your knowledge and capacity to react to unforeseen circumstances in the international arena. The simulation will be attached to the committee’s central discussion on the topic of terrorism in the Western Hemisphere; a theme which has traditionally sparked little interest yet has been of momentous importance for particular countries in the region. The Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias (FARC), The Tri-Partite Region and even Immigration Policies of the different countries within the Americas thus prompt questions as to the future application of anti-terrorist policies in the region.
I hope and expect then that we will have some uniquely interesting debates and discussions. I assure you that you will leave this conference with a more complete vision of the intricate circumstances surrounding anti-terrorism policy in the region and the realities of the situation in many countries. If you have any questions please do not hesitate in contacting me, I will be more than happy to answer any questions.
Sincerely,
Guillermo Nemirovsky
Chair,
OAS Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism
