You Can Run, But You Can't Hide: The International Anti-Corruption Conference, 2022

The International Anti Corruption Conference (IACC) is a biannual summit where the global community–composed of world leaders, civil society, and the private sector–continues a decades-long campaign against the proliferation of corruption. Since its conception in 1983, the IACC has hosted up to 3000  participants from over 180 countries in a new location every two years. The conference strives to foster global exchange and effective advocacy between all parties involved. The 20th iteration of the conference will be hosted in Washington, DC, centered on the theme of  “Uprooting Corruption, Defending Democratic Values.” At NCSC LIII, delegates are tasked with galvanizing the global movement against corruption and grappling with the growing number of challenges to the global world order.

Note: This committee will be run as a Double-Delegate General-Assembly.

Topic A: Democratic Erosion—Election Interference, Instability, and Manipulation

Topic B: The Global Use and Enforcement of Sanctions

Co-Chair:
Alexia EspInoza Vlad

  • Alexia Espinoza Vlad is a member of the Class of 2027 in the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. She is pursuing a major in International Politics, with a concentration in International Law, Institutions, and Ethics, and a minor in Justice and Peace Studies. She often goes back home to Naples, Florida to escape the brutal DC winters!

Alexia has been involved in Model UN since freshman year of high school, so she’s going on 6 years of debate and diplomacy! She has competed in and staffed conferences on both the high school and collegiate circuits. Excitingly, she chaired the inaugural iteration of the NCSC Senate committee last year at NCSC LI! She is also extremely involved with NCSC’s sister high-school conference, NAIMUN. She previously served as one of the Under-Secretaries-General of Economic and Social Councils at NAIMUN LXII, which inspired her to continue educating delegates through unique committees as the Secretary-General of NAIMUN LXIII.

When she’s not working on Model UN, Alexia advises international non-profit executives with Georgetown Global Consulting, welcomes prospective students and families to Georgetown’s campus through her hilarious and relatable campus tours, and works at the Mortara Center for International Studies. In her free time, she loves to try new foods around DC, spend money she doesn’t have on various exercise classes, and sing all types of music, from opera to jazz.

Alexia is excited to be chairing the International Anti-Corruption Conference this year! If you have any questions, concerns, or need tips for the best restaurants in DC, please feel free to shoot her an email at a.espinozavlad@modelun.org
