& You Thought Your In-Laws Were Bad: Sedo Politics in Joseon Korea, 1834

This committee is for female & gender nonconforming delegates.

Joseon Dynasty, Korea, 1834. This is the 35th year in reign of for King Sunjo, as well as his last. This young king ascended to this throne at the age of 10, yet still not the youngest monarch to ascend the throne in Joseon's history. With the ascension of the 7-year-old King Heonjong to the throne, the royal court is now in the largest turmoil ever as the king might need a few years to navigate his way before gaining some real political control.

With Queen Sunwon of the Andong Kim Clan now serving as queen regent, powerful clans who had previously gained power through the daughters they married off into the royal family now gained even more of a governing presence – and with them came more and more conflicts. More notably, the elite ladies began floating to the surface, as their unique positions in different clans and families are now the most powerful tool for them to gain what they what.

In this unique all-women committee, delegates will seek to find their way in the chaotic Heonjong royal court and create their own political system and committee procedures. They will find themselves in different power struggles, sometimes with their own families, as they they all attempted to govern the country in the way their clan, or their family, desires. Facing pressure from the lower classes and foreign influences at the same time as well, it is time for the ladies to act quick, before Heonjong wants everything back.
