NCSC Philanthrophy

As we welcome hundreds of delegates and staffers alike this fall, NCSC seeks to actively engage with real-world issues happening in our local, national, and global communities.

NCSC and NAIMUN, our sister-conference for high school students, partner with a charitable organization to provide an approximately five figure donation and, in the process, raise awareness about significant social justice issues.

NCSC LII & the Georgetown International Relations, Inc. are proud to partner with Seed Program International, a nonprofit organization dedicating to improving food security, strengthening communities, and cultivating sustainable livelihoods through agriculture.

Founded in 1998 by John Batcha, Seed Programs International (SPI) partners with international and domestic organizations to enable access to quality seed, knowledge, and inputs. Their international programs primarily focus on women, children, crisis recovery, and agricultural resilience. Domestic programs support agricultural education, food literacy, and healthy food experiences through schools, libraries, and community support organizations.

Over SPI’s 25-year history, they have partnered with organizations in 94 countries to grow over 58 thousand tons of food for those most in need.

We invite you to explore more by visiting Seed Programs International’s website (seedprograms.org) and Instagram page (@seedprograms).

  • To improve food security, strengthen communities, and cultivate sustainable livelihoods through agriculture.

  • An equitable world whereby communities have access to quality seed of diverse crop varieties and the knowledge, tools, and resources needed to grow nutritious food and establish sustainable and resilient food systems.

  • Improving access to seed, training, and agricultural resources will reduce hunger and poverty, improve nutrition, build local community capacity, cultivate climate resilience, and create sustainable practices for resilient livelihoods.

  • Seed Programs International was founded in 1998 by John Batcha. John worked for an American seed company and saw that good quality seed was being thrown away each year due to overproduction and changes in customer preferences. He created Seed Programs International to repurpose this seed for humanitarian programs to fight hunger.

Over our history we have expanded our work to include more comprehensive support by enabling access to agricultural training and inputs. We collaborate with local implementing partners to build the local capacity of the communities we support. This increases community buy-in and enables locally owned success.

Get Involved

Led by Director of Philanthropy Saki Saito, our team has been working hard to raise as much money as possible for Seed Programs International. Throughout September and October, we have organized fundraisers for Georgetown students and staffers.

During NCSC, delegates and staffers will have the opportunity to contribute in a variety of ways:

  • Thursday night, October 31st: Crepeaway Fundraiser (11:30PM-12:30 AM)

Satisfy your late-night crepe craving and dance on tables during NCSC’s widely popular Crepeaway night! Mention NCSC at the cashier for 30% of proceeds to be donated to SPI. Located at 2001 L St NW, Crepeaway is a short 20 minute walk from the Hilton.

  • Saturday morning, November 2nd: Marketing & Opportunities Fair (8AM-10AM in Columbia)

We are excited to showcase our philanthropic partner at our Marketing & Opportunities Fair, where delegates and staffers can meet SPI representatives, learn about ways to get involved, and network with those in the nonprofit sector.

  • EVERY DAY: Candygram orders and donations!

Give into your sweet tooth (and heart) and order a candy gram or limited edition plushies for yourself, a friend, or special someone!

We also warmly welcome any donations made during committee or at the Philanthropy Desk through cash, Venmo (@girc-gira), or Zelle (cfo@modelun.org). If using an online platform, please specify “phil” in the description.

Delegates and staffers will work together to reach specific goals for each committee and get their Dias to complete must-see incentives, like being pied in the face!
