Guardians of the Galaxy: The United Arab Emirates' Space Agency, 2025
In a galaxy far, far away… you are a delegate in our committee! Welcome to the United Arab Emirates’ Space Agency. Created in 2014, the UAESA has emerged as a new and exciting player in global space exploration and innovation. In just a decade, the UAE has successfully sent a probe to Mars, put an astronaut on the International Space Station, and currently has ten satellites in orbit. As the UAE has established its foothold in space, it has focused on fostering international partnerships and advancing existing satellite technology. Having already launched several commercial satellites such as Thuraya-1 and Al Yah 3, the UAE hopes to continue growing its nascent commercial satellite industry and eventually become a major global player in commercial space. With plans to send an interplanetary mission to Venus and several Asteroid Belt objects in 2028, planned international collaboration on several future moon missions, and aspirations to build a base on Mars by 2117, the UAE stands to play a decisive role in space exploration and development over the next century and beyond.
The UAE faces many unique opportunities and challenges in the emerging frontier of space. Will it continue to heavily rely on international space collaboration or begin to establish more independent capabilities? What role will private entities play in the UAE’s goal of developing luxury space tourism? How will the UAE take space sustainability into account as it begins to develop a greater foothold in near-earth orbit? Will it choose to partner exclusively with America and the West in space, strike up an alliance with China/Russia, or attempt to carve out its own path as a neutral third party? The UAE Space Agency is blasting off into the future, leaving delegates to determine just what that future will hold.

Hi! My name is Bruce Dickson and I’m a student in Georgetown’s College of Arts and Sciences in the Class of 2027. I’m currently studying Economics and Computer Science, but I’ve always had a passion for politics and international relations. My first experience with Model UN was staffing this conference in 2023, and I’ve come to love the fun and fast-paced environment that comes with MUN. I grew up in Ridgewood, New Jersey around a half-hour outside of New York City, and am a massive fan of both college and professional football. I am also passionate and involved with space on campus as a leader of Georgetown University’s Space Initiative (GUSI). I hope to see you at NCSC!

His Model UN experience extends since high school, where he participated in a variety of state and national conferences, in both GA and crisis-style committees.. Outside of the classroom, he enjoys taking on roles that further his interests in government and politics. This includes interning on Capitol Hill and working on campaigns.
