The Ad hoc General Assembly
We are thrilled to welcome you to Washington, D.C. for NCSC’s first-ever 24 hour committee. Our inspiration for this committee struck on February 25, 2018, at which point “Ad hoc” was the word of the day in Merriam Webster’s dictionary. Ever since then, we have spent every single minute of our high school and college experiences carefully crafting your committee. Don’t fact check us on that. We are excited to finally share our vision with you, though we fear you will have to wait until Thursday evening to see it. Come prepared—or don’t.
Given the challenges you will face in this committee, we wanted to warn you in advance of some of the most pressing. Notably, one of the hardest things you will have to do is manage to see your Chair over the dais table, given that she is probably shorter than the table itself. Similarly, your other Chair is probably going to be too busy studying for Russian (which she will inevitably fail anyways) to pay attention to your motions. Finally, your Director is most likely going to fall asleep during committee, as she is a little baby sophomore and this is past her bedtime.
Please do not continue reading this believing that we are going to put hints in the committee description. You know better. We’re nice, but not that nice.
Anyway, please reach out if you have any questions about the committee! We are happy to provide absolutely no support or helpful information at all, and are looking forward to working with you to not prepare for this committee.
The Ad Hoc General Assembly will span 24 hours with breaks built in—schedule coming soon! This means the entire committee is Ad Hoc, rather than just the first two hours. This also means that General Assembly traditions such as bloc breakfast and clause preparation outside of committee are not possible.
The Ad Hoc General Assembly body, topics, and background guide will be revealed to delegates at the beginning of the first committee session Thursday night.
This committee will be run as a midsize single-delegation committee.
Co-Chair:
Eilat Herman
-
Eilat Herman a member of Georgetown College of Arts and Sciences in the class of [REDACTED], majoring in Government and double minoring in [REDACTED] and staffing NCSC. Last year at NCSC LII, Eilat had the honor of serving as NCSC’s shortest Chief of Staff in history. Previously, she served as the Under-Secretary-General of Non-Traditionals at both NCSC LI and NAIMUN LXI, NCSC’s sister conference for high school students (yes, her co-chair stole her job) and a former GUMUN C-Staffer. However, Eilat has grown very tired of Non-Traditional committees, and is therefore looking forward to delivering you a traditional Model UN experience in the Ad Hoc General Assembly. Outside of Model UN, Eilat serves as the Captain of Georgetown’s Moot Court team, writes a [REDACTED] column for Georgetown’s school newspaper, makes fun of people for being slow at the NYT Mini, and drags her friends to procure [REDACTED]. Being from Montclair, New Jersey—a state towards which she will accept no criticism—Eilat is an avid New York Yankees fan. She would like to take the opportunity to note that Katherine’s favorite team, the Houston A****s, are cheaters. Further, Eilat feels it necessary to warn delegates that if the Yankees do not spend NCSC weekend winning the World Series, she will be very grouchy. Eilat is perpetually in search of quality gelato, and will be very appreciative if you give her recommendations—though not quite appreciative enough to reveal the Ad Hoc topic. She is looking forward to seeing you all at NCSC for twenty-four hours of excellent debate, [REDACTED], and perhaps even some [REDACTED]. Best of luck…
Co-Chair:
Katherine Hart
-
Katherine Hart is in the School of Foreign Service in the class of [REDACTED], majoring in International Politics and double minoring in [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] (yes, she’s clearly more intelligent than her Co-Chair). Last year, Katherine had the immense displeasure of serving on the Chief of Staff Team of NCSC LII, under a certain Chief of Staff… But that’s not enough Model UN for Katherine—she is currently Director-General of NAIMUN LXIII, NCSC’s sister conference for high school students. Last year, Katherine served as the Under-Secretary-General of Non-Traditionals of NAIMUN LXII, following in the (small) footsteps of her Co-Chair. In her rare free time, Katherine can be found in the Caravel office, writing for the superior Georgetown newspaper. Katherine has recently entered retirement after serving as the Caravel’s Editor-in-Chief last year. She must love offices because she is also a Student Advocate for the Student Advocacy Office, offering counselling and information to students facing code of conduct violations. And although we all swore to forget the misery of the SAT, Katherine willingly tutors high school students on the verbal section of the SAT (hence, she will always be impressed by good vocabulary). If the weather is nice, Katherine can surely be found attempting to tan on Healy Lawn (it’s not working) or going on walks with friends. When she returns home to [REDACTED], Katherine often visits the ranch where she worked, goes to art museums, and roots for the objectively best baseball team. She cites her hometown superiority as her validation to judge every barbecue and Tex-Mex restaurant. Katherine is very excited to judge more than just food at NCSC LIII. In this year’s Ad Hoc GA, she is excited to watch delegates debate [REDACTED], write about [REDACTED], and make excellent speeches (with exceptional vocabulary)!
