COPUOS convenes at a pivotal point in human history where the new frontier of space is no longer light-years away, but is an active domain shaping global politics, security, and economic development.
Set in 2021, COPUOS is actively creating the “Space2030 Agenda: Space as a Driver of Sustainable Development” amidst evolving geopolitical tensions, space militarization, and the growth of the commercial space sector. Delegates will not merely be building upon existing legal frameworks, but creating new ones to usher in an innovative era of space governance. As technological development outpaces regulation, delegates will be designing limitations for celestial expansion, commercialization, and appropriation.
Satellite and space-faring capabilities are critical for national security, disaster prevention, rural internet access, and communications. Thus, addressing inequities is crucial to launch the world into a more sustainable future with delegates developing solutions that are out of this world.
With a new space race underway, delegates must balance national interests with collective responsibility, working to close regulatory gaps while fostering sustainable development and global cooperation.
Delegates will create their own Space2030 agenda to accomplish this mission. The time to act is now. It is crucial that COPUOS shoots for the stars and implements solutions that ensure space remains a domain for all humanity.

Michael Murray
CHAIR
Michael Murray is a member of the Class of 2027 in the Walsh School of Foreign Service, studying International Politics with a concentration in Security Studies and a Certificate in Diplomatic Studies. He previously served as the Chief Communications Officer of GIRA, Inc., the nonprofit organization that supports NCSC. Outside of MUN, he is the President of the Alexander Hamilton Society, a pre-professional organization for foreign affairs and national security. He is also a member of the Eating Society and loves trying new restaurants and seeing new parts of D.C. Michael is very excited to be your Chair for COPUOS at NCSC LIV!

Yixi Zou
CO-CHAIR
Yixi Zou is a member of Georgetown University’s class of 2029, studying Science, Technology, and International Affairs at the Walsh School of Foreign Service. Born in Suzhou, China, and raised in Long Island, New York, she later found a third home in Lakeville, Connecticut, where she spent four years of high school. Last year, Yixi served as the Director of Operations for DistrictMUN VI, GIRA’s middle school MUN conference, Crisis Analyst for NCSC LIII, and Rapporteur for NCSC’s sister conference for high school students, NAIMUN LXIII (where Michael was her Chair!). She currently serves as the Director of Registration for NAIMUN LXIV because she just could not get enough of MUN.
Outside of MUN, Yixi is also involved with the Philoso-Tea Society, the Georgetown University Undergraduate Law Review, Georgetown Bubble, and GIRA’s sister organization, the Georgetown International Relations Club. She loves playing the violin and singing karaoke outside of academics. In her free time, you can find her updating her Beli and checking out different restaurants in DC. Yixi is excited to be your chair for COPUOS at NCSC LIV!
