The Prelude to the Bohemian Peasant Revolution, 1774
Will they rule democratically?
“Or will they recreate the system that held them back now that they have all the power?”
What happens when those at the bottom of the feudal system suddenly have no lord, no laws, and no safety net? Rising hunger, heavier work loads, and worse treatment from lords drove the serfs to a level of resentment towards nobility that had never been seen before. In the summer of 1774, the former serfs of Joseph I Adams, Prince of Schwarzenberg vanished into the unforgiving forests of the Krkonse Mountains with nothing but hunger, desperation, and their hard-earned skills.
Delegates will assume the roles of common Bohemian serfs, each with different sets of skills and trades. They are tasked with preparing for and surviving through their first winter outside of their lord’s estate. It is their responsibility to establish their own settlement, determine how it will be governed, and how they will respond to the imminent difficulties that await them. Delegates will discuss the division of their new land, the allocation of their resources, defense against their former lord, and their integration into society at large. Additionally, they are expected to establish their own government. Will they rule democratically, or will they recreate the system that held them back now that they have all the power?

Rachel Styslinger
CHAIR
Rachel is studying International Economics in the School of Foreign Service, Class of 2027, with minors in Religion, Ethics, and World Affairs and Art History. Her first experience with Model UN was as a Crisis Analyst at NCSC LI and from there, she tumbled down the Georgetown Model UN rabbit hole—now proudly a member of the Georgetown Travel Model UN Team. On campus, she is on the board of Delta Phi Epsilon (the professional foreign service sorority), volunteers with HOME (Homeless Outreach Meals and Education), and occasionally rock climbs. She is a research assistant for the Georgetown Center for Retirement Initiatives and spent last summer as the Director of a High Ropes Course and Zip Line at a sleepaway camp. Rachel is a matcha latte enthusiast, reads too many romance novels, and can stare at large bodies of water for hours without losing interest. Slowly but surely, she is making her way through Vanderpump Rules and is crocheting a blanket that will likely never be finished. Home for Rachel is Kensington, Maryland. From the Washington Hilton, if you follow Connecticut Avenue for a few miles and take a left, you will reach her childhood house—where you can pet her dog, Jasper, through the backyard gate.

Alex Rieger
CRISIS MANAGER
Alex Rieger is a member of Georgetown’s College of Arts and Sciences Class of 2027, and he is majoring in Government with a concentration in International Relations, and minoring in Russian. He is from Pahrump, Nevada, a small town outside of Las Vegas, but often just says he’s from Vegas. Coming from a rural town, he had rather little Model UN experience in high school, but after staffing NCSC as a first-year, he fell in love with MUN. Since then, he has had the wonderful opportunity of staffing both NCSC and NAIMUN, and competing with the GUMUN traveling team. He also enjoys learning (and often complaining) about the vast differences of life on the East and West Coasts, exploring the DMV, playing board games, and streaming the same episodes of his favorite sitcoms on repeat (The Office, Parks and Rec, etc.). NCSC is a great weekend, and Alex cannot wait to meet all of the delegates as they deal with complex issues, vast intrigue, and the open world of the Serfs!
