The Specialized AD HOC
SPADHOC

SPADHOC ~
This is not a “traditional” SpadHoc. This is intentional—SpadHoc is often a niche committee only a few delegates repeatedly do, and I want to broaden this committee to the people who love Model UN, rather than people with a specific competitive background of GA or crisis. I see the essence of Model UN, as the ability to maintain merited leadership through obstacles and changes. If you can do that, even if you’re a traditional crisis or GA del or have never done an advanced committee before, you will be able to succeed with me as your dais. Still, anticipate around equal quantities of GA and crisis components, including directives, working papers, author’s panel, top-paging, speeches, JPDs/crisis notes, and much more.
This is an advanced committee. Awards in this committee will be given a 1.25 weighting when calculating delegation awards.
Welcome to NCSC’s first ever Specialized Ad Hoc committee!
“We are beyond excited to serve as your dais for this committee, which we promise will be an unforgettable part of your Model UN career….”
Dear prospective delegate,
Welcome to NCSC’s first ever Specialized Ad Hoc committee! We are beyond excited to serve as your dais for this committee, which we promise will be an unforgettable part of your Model UN career…
This committee is the capstone of my eight-year Model UN career—an activity that has fundamentally changed my life and me as a person. Through literal blood, sweat, and tears, I have made many memories, friends, and opps, and seen it all on the collegiate circuit. Yet I would not trade this activity for the world, and am actually so emo about leaving it all behind for employment (cries) next year. This committee is the most diabolical thing I’ve ever done (even counting my GA history…), but in a fun and whimsy, not in a SpadHoc-of-doom-and-despair kind of way. As you will eventually understand, it is a celebration of what Model UN means to me and to many of you. It will reconceptualize your understanding of who, what, where, when, and why this activity exists and operates. It is fundamentally different than any Model UN committee that has been run, to my knowledge. Guess all you like—unfortunately, you will not be able to predict or prepare for what this weekend has in store. Nonetheless, we’d like to provide you with some reassuring information.
First, know that if I was at a conference and found out they were doing ******** ***** and I wasn’t in it, I’d have severe fomo. If I was in it, though, I’d find it competitively fair and really fun, but not cruel. So you should do it!
Secondly, this is not a “traditional” SpadHoc. Still, anticipate around equal quantities of GA and crisis components, including directives, working papers, author’s panel, top-paging, speeches, JPDs/crisis notes, and much more.
As a final note, I’ll leave you with this:
Expect the unexpected.
Don’t believe anything you see or read.
It’s all part of the game. Enjoy the show.
Ominously (lol),
Caroline & Kate
